Engineering & Aircraft Maintenance
What’s it all about?
Qualified and highly skilled engineers are increasingly in demand in this exciting and rewarding industry. Our Engineering courses will focus on two key Engineering areas – Aeronautical Engineering and Operations Maintenance Engineering. If you’re looking for real-life experience and the opportunity to progress to work or further study then join the Engineering team.
What will I do?
We offer various pathways in Aeronautical and Operations Maintenance including our Pre-Apprenticeship programme. You will learn how things work and how to keep them working, using diagnostics, fault finding and maintenance procedures. You will gain knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering principles and will develop a broad understanding of the huge possibilities within the engineering industry. As well as developing the skills to pursue a career in Engineering we will also provide you with the opportunity to gain an in depth understanding of key aviation operations that ensure the smooth running of the airport. Our strong links with employers such as Ryanair, Inflite, Tui and London Stansted Airport means you will have opportunities to gain real life work experience and benefit from their vast expertise.
What can I do next?
You can either progress on to further or higher education or apply for Apprenticeships in various sectors that could lead to careers such as an airfield engineer, aerospace engineer, maintenance technician, terminal technician or project manager. There will also be opportunities to progress to a degree top-up qualification.
Aircraft maintenance technicians are essential in the aviation industry, working in both civil and military sectors to ensure the safety and airworthiness of aircraft, including planes, helicopters, and jet fighters. These skilled professionals maintain and certify aircraft by inspecting, repairing, and modifying mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems. They perform safety checks, manage technical logs, and handle scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks. Often working in diverse environments such as hangars and workshops, technicians may hold an Aircraft Maintenance Licence issued by regulatory bodies like the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) or the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), reflecting their expertise and commitment to aviation safety.

T Levels are new courses which will follow GCSEs and are equivalent to three A Levels. These two-year courses have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares learners for work. This particular T Level has been designed to deliver a high level of knowledge about the engineering industry as well as the occupational skills required to enter the industry (known as ‘threshold competence’). A learner who completes this qualification is well placed to develop to full occupational competence with the correct support and training. This qualification is being delivered from our Stansted Airport College Campus, which will give students unique opportunities to progress in to aviation-specific careers.
