Entry Requirements:

5 GCSEs at grades 4-9 Including English and Maths (previously Grade A-C). Interview and reference.

What's it all about?:

This course is focused on developing a broad range of skills used in the hospitality and events industry. It will equip you with key front of house skills and organising techniques to enable you to co-ordinate functions, events and conferences. You will also develop a deeper understanding of the role required for management and supervision. It encompasses everything you need to know in order to deliver outstanding service, manage an event, and supervise a team.

How long is the course?:

2 years – minimum 3 days a week

How much does it cost?:

Free to those aged 16-18

There is a range of financial support that you may be entitled to, including: Learner Support funds, grants and bursaries and employer support.

Additional course costs of approx. £100 a year will apply. This will cover the cost of educational visits, textbooks, guest speakers etc.

What will I do?:

The course consists of 4 Mandatory Units and up to 15 Optional Units. These include:

  • The Hospitality Industry
  • Principles of Supervising Customer Service Performance in Hospitality
  • Providing Customer Service in Hospitality
  • Financial control in Hospitality
  • Supervisory Skills in the Hospitality Industry
  • Event Organisation in Hospitality
  • The principles of food safety supervision for catering.
  • Planning and Managing a Hospitality Event

You will have the option to achieve a Level 2 Barista Skills qualification in addition to the above qualification. This will involve learning about the range of equipment used in making beverages and how to operate the equipment to deliver the desired drink quality. You will also gain a good understanding of the products used in making beverages.

What can I do next?:

You can progress to a Level 4 apprenticeship as a Hospitality Manager. Alternatively you can progress into employment in a range of roles including Event Co-ordinator, Food & Beverage Supervisor or a Guest Service Co-ordinator.

The Hospitality industry offers many exciting career opportunities and we provide clear pathways to a successful career in the industry. You could be offering hospitality to one of the many VIP and escape lounges at London Stansted Airport, preparing and making food for restaurants as well as supplying food for airlines. The possibilities are vast and in addition to this you could be working in an international hotel, a Michelin starred restaurant, planning, hosting and managing events or even running your own business.

All enrolled students at Stansted Airport College will be eligible to lease an apple device to enable them to learn where and when they want. All students will are expected to have use of an IPad for their learning, in the majority of cases through a lease-to-buy scheme.
