What is a Pre-Apprenticeship Programme?

It's designed to help you transition into an apprenticeship and focuses on developing a broad range of skills used in industry. The programme is a fantastic opportunity to get your foot in the door with a highly reputable employer and to secure an apprenticeship.

We'll be here to assist you with the application process for various roles across the airport and give you a variety of opportunities to develop your interview skills and gain valuable work experience.

What qualifications do I need?

You need to have 5 GCSEs at grade 4-9

How old do I have to be to do a Pre-Apprenticeship programme?

This programme is aimed at both 16-18 year olds and sixth form/college leavers wanting to launch their career in the Engineering or Aircraft Maintenance sector.

What happens after I complete this course?

The course will open up many great apprenticeships within the Engineering sector. This could be an Aircraft Maintenance apprenticeship with Airlines such as Ryanair or an Operations and Maintenance Apprenticeship with London Stansted Airport (MAG).

Do I have to pay for this course?

The programme is fully funded if you are aged 17 or 18 before 31 August 2018. However, if you are aged 19 or over you will need to fund the programme yourself.

What is a Work Transition Programme?

The programme supports you in transitioning into the workplace and is focused on developing a broad range of skills used in Industry. It is primarily aimed at individuals that have finished Sixth Form and are keen to transition into sustainable employment at Stansted Airport.

We will assist you with the application process for various roles across the airport and will also give you various opportunities to develop your interview skills and gain valuable work experience.

What qualifications do I need?

You need to have 5 GCSEs at grade 4-9. This programme is aimed at sixth form/college leavers so it is expected individuals will have either A-levels or a Level 3 programme.

How old do I have to be to do a Work Transition Programme?

You will ideally be 18 years old but the minimum age is 17 years old.

What happens after I complete this course?

This programme is a stepping stone into a career within your chosen area. You can progress to an apprenticeship or alternatively, with the skills you develop whilst on this programme, you can progress directly into employment.

Do I have to pay for this course?

What is the difference between a Pre-Apprenticeship Programme and Work Transition Programme?

A Pre-Apprenticeship programme prepares you for further training as an apprentice.

In some sectors an apprenticeship is not essential in order to pursue a career in which a work transition programme enables you to transition directly into full or part-time employment. As part of the work transition programme you will still have the opportunity to gain further skills and qualifications through an apprenticeship programme if required by the employer.

5 GCSEs grades 3-9. Interview and reference. This qualification is suitable for 16-18 year olds progressing directly from YR 11 and also for 18+ learners wishing to enter a career in Engineering or secure an apprenticeship.
