Early in July, a buzzing Novotel at Stansted Airport provided the venue for a fantastic event where Stansted Airport College offer holders were given the opportunity to meet employers who are based around the Airport and to explore the many career choices available.

There was ample time to ask questions and find out everything about airport life, including careers in aviation, engineering, business, hospitality and retail. 

17 employers attended, from many diverse areas, including airline companies, retail and leisure industries, logistics and central government. They were able to provide expert advice about their areas to over 140 enthusiastic people who visited the packed event. 

These employers included Ryanair, UPS Airlines, BA City Flyer, Border Force, Hampton Hilton, Holiday Inn and FedEx. 

One of the highlights of the evening were the tours of the new Stansted Airport College, which left every 15 minutes. These consisted of students and their parents being able to go onsite and view the new building, which is due to open in September 2018. 

One of the ticket holders, speaking after his tour of the building, said: “I’m even more excited to start after seeing the college and how close it is to the runway”. 

Kevin Hill, Line Maintenance Supervisor at BA City Flyer, said of the event: “BA City Flyer were pleased to have the opportunity to talk to many prospective aviation colleagues and we hope that they gained enough information to progress through college and hopefully towards a career in aviation.” 

Joe Daly, a Border Force Officer based Stansted Airport, said: “We felt it was a great event. It went very well and the time flew by. It was really interesting as we got to talk to people specifically interested in Border Force as a career option and also those who were interested in working at the airport but unsure in what capacity. 

“It would definitely be an event we would like to attend again. It was rewarding seeing the amount of interest and enthusiasm from those attending.” 

Wendy Martin, Head of Stansted Airport College, said of the event: “It was an exceptional event and it was great for Stansted Airport College Trainees to see the fantastic career opportunities that are available to them on completion of their course. 

“The college is extremely excited to be working in partnership with so many highly reputable businesses and we are very grateful for the outstanding levels of support and commitment shown to the college so far.”
