Duration:
42-48 months. Various modes of delivery including Year 1 – 5 days a week in College, Year 2-4 – 1 day a week in College & 4 days a week work. Alternative modes of delivery include day release for the full 4 years.
Entry Requirements:
Minimum 4 GCSEs at grades 4-9 (A*-C) Inc. Maths, English and a Science. Interview and Reference. Individual Employers will also set their own entry requirements.
You must have an employer before you begin this course.
What's it all about?:
Talented engineers, technicians and managers are vital to the future success of the engineering industry. Maintenance Technicians ensure that plant and equipment perform to the required standard to facilitate production targets regarding Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost within High Value Manufacturing environments. Typically the work would cover a broad range of activities include installation, testing, fault finding and the on-going planned maintenance of complex automated equipment. This requires the application of a complex blend of skills, knowledge and occupational behaviours across the electrical, electronic, mechanical, fluid power and control systems disciplines.
What will I do?:
The course consists of the following mandatory qualifications:
- Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
- Level 2 Award for Foundation Phase Gateway Assessment.
After a further period of skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:
- Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Mechatronics Maintenance Technician
- Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
Assessment consists of On Programme assessment and End Point Assessment. Assessment methods include a combination of examinations, portfolio of evidence, observations and written assignments. The end point assessment involves a portfolio based occupational competence validation interview (VIVA).
This qualification is graded Pass/ Fail
What can I do next?:
You can progress to a higher level apprenticeship or secure employment as a maintenance, mechanical or equipment engineer and many more.

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, apprentices will be able to apply for professional registration as they will be EngTech ready.
